STRATEGIES BY THE ARTIST
Starts 18.00 hours

SOUP & BREAD & DOCUMENTARY
Free soup and bread and a documentary. This evening, featuring the short documentary kids+money by Lauren Greenfield (USA). Teenagers from various socio-economic backgrounds in Los Angeles tell about the role money plays in their lives: getting money, spending money and learning to live without money. Greenfield has acutely edited these sometimes extreme stories, and shows children who have been formed by consumer culture.

Starts 19.00 hours

KINDER ZU UNTERNEHMERN! >– Judith Wilske (DE)Judith Wilske developed Kinder Zu Unternehmern! (KZU!) [Kids into Entrepreneurs!] at Kampnagel in Hamburg. On the basis of Bertolt Brecht’s ‘Lehrstücktheorie’ [theory of didactic plays], she asked children aged 3 to 14 to set up their own businesses. During Crisis in Frascati, Wilske will explain her concept with the help of (video) images, and will enter into an interactive debate with the audience about her KZU! Judith Wilske graduated in Economics with distinction in Bonn, and then followed the multidisciplinary DasArts course, where she developed her project Why Do You Shop!, which went on to tour throughout Europe.
The discussion will be in English

ART AND CRISIS DEBATE –Judith Wilske, Lotte van den Berg, Yosi Wanunu, chaired by Chris Keulemans
Panel discussion, chaired by author and journalist Chris Keulemans, about the question of how artists can respond to the crisis. Keulemans will be hosting three artists, all of whom relate to this theme. The guests will be: Yosi Wanunu, theatremaker from controversial company Toxic Dreams (Vienna), Judith Wilske, theatremaker and economist (Hamburg) and Lotte van den Berg, theatremaker and artistic director of Omsk (Dordrecht, NL).
The discussion will be in English

TOXIC DREAMS – Yosi Wanunu (AT)
Can the economic crisis be understood through song and dance? An attempt at escapist art. Toxic Dreams is the most influential independent group from Vienna, under Israeli theatremaker, filmmaker and writer Yosi Wanunu. The company works around a particular theme during several productions. This season, the spotlight is on the crisis. In this short performance, Wanunu takes the first step in a theatrical investigation.

SOBER – Sanne van Rijn
Theatremaker Sanne van Rijn has written a plea for sobriety in the arts. Sanne van Rijn is associated as a director with Campo/Victoria and Frascati, and next season will be creating the production ‘hier en nu’ [‘here and now’]: hardcore adult entertainment with blind actors. Text and realisation: Sanne van Rijn.

SMIRNOFF UN-LTD – Henrique Neves (PT)
SMIRNOFF UN-LTD is a performance by theatremaker Henrique Neves about the 100 highest-ranking brands in the world. This worldwide list is published each year by a business magazine and gives an overview of the world’s most successful brands. Expansion is lauded and capital worshipped! During the performance, however, greed and unbridled consumerism tumble over one another. The production premiered (during the economic boom) at Festival Plateaux 2004 (Frankfurt) and has now been revived specially for Crisis in Frascati. Concept and performance: Henrique Neves.
Performance is in English

DAAU VS OUR DAILY BREAD (BE/AU)
In 2007, the headstrong group DAAU (Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung) from Antwerp composed a live soundtrack for the documentary Our Daily Bread. In Our Daily Bread, Austrian filmmaker Nikolaus Geyrhalter focused his camera over a two-year period on the European foodstuffs industry. To the rhythm of the camera, he shows us the journeys made by our food. The soundtrack gives the documentary an added dimension: DAAU have been renowned for many years for their rousing, hypnotic mix of The Beatles and Zappa, but also Eastern European influences, folk and jazz. DAAU uses a classic range of instruments (cello, clarinet, double bass and accordion), in combination with drums. With five albums under their belt, DAAU have time and again proven that they can push back the boundaries of pop music.

Friday 27 March

INCASSO – Via Negativa (SL) Dutch première

Slovenian group Via Negativa launched Incasso [Debt Collection] in 2004. An extreme theatrical statement on greed, which examines the complex relationship of us human beings to money. The production made a terrific impact, and was presented on international stages and at festivals. Incasso is a cry from the heart from a young generation of artists who, confronted by the revolution in Eastern Europe, are trying to find their way in a new world dominated by the power of capital.
Via Negativa are performing this production one more time, specially for Crisis in Frascati. The world has changed radically in the meantime. Concept and direction: Bojan Jablanovec, Performers/makers: Kristian Al Droubi, Petra Govc, Jaka Lah, Sanela Milosevic, Matej Recer, Grega Zorc and Katja Legin.
